1) What Dr Palmer learned while working on his doctoral thesis, The Markan Matrix, about ‘parsing’ and rhetorical analysis, he applied first of all to the other Gospels, then Acts and then to The Revelation. While he was serving in Sri Lanka as a Mission Partner, he thought he ought to take a ‘little look’ into ‘some’ of the Letters…
2) This publication is possibly the first since Bengel’s (Gnomon…,1742) to present charts on all the structures of the NT books, as determined by ‘grammatico-historical’ considerations.

6) Re-launched with a Supplementary Disk of up-dates to the Rhetorical Chart of the New Testament, this publication represents a huge advance on anything produced so far. Just like the fifth edition before it, this production is aimed at a wide readership, not only in both church and academia, but also generally, in society. The Christian Faith itself really needs these results of years of sensible research.

New Testament scholars have not been doing their job for many centuries. And today, when they do have time for research, they spend much more time in studying the secondary literature than they do the primary: the texts are for the most part ignored. Indeed it is the scholars’ ignorance of the disciplined nature of the texts which shames them most.

The texts of the New Testament conform to the writing rules and writing practices of the first centuries BC and AD. My thesis on this has been steadily establishing itself over forty years. Chapter and verse were never needed as an addition to the text; the texts all have their built-in self-referencing systems. And as Augustine said long ago, no text is understood until its rhetorical structure is understood.

New Testament Studies is in for its biggest ever shake-up and shake-out!
